The Verulam Athletic Club officials are proud of many of their athletes, who have shined once again.
Vukani Maphumulo recently made a return to distance running with a fluent 3:17 in the Hillcrest Marathon while Cynthia Zondi secured second place in the age category in the John Dube inaugural 10km at Ohlange Secondary, recently.
On the local front, many new athletes are making their mark- both socially as well as competitively.
As each week goes by, new faces light up the time trials and airport runs.
The airport development challenge saw the novice debut of partners, Shany Harilal and Jared Govender in a sub one hour and 58 minutes in the 5km and the return of Thabiso Gumede.
Junior, Daniel Singh led the 5km run in 40:38 ahead of Thulani Zondi in 57:20. Lucy and Melisha Ramsaroop eased through the 5km in one hour.

Tasveer Singh continues to display splendid form with the team VAC lead of 52:56 in the 10km run, with Joel Motsoane a distant second in 1:03.
Mantombi Faya came through in 1:12 with Jauce Moodley and Poovendran Moodley making the trek from Durban North in 1:17.
Nan Maharaj continues to improve with 1:20 run, ahead of Joey and Cynthia Zondi. Dolly Moodley came in 1:49 while Judy Rajoo returned after a long break in 1:55 with partner Queenie Naidoo.
Yvonne Nair, Ben Padayachee, Rajesh Ramdhularie and Dominic Govender completed the VAC 10km. Naiso Mburambo led the 12km in 58:11 with multiple Comrades medalist, Siyanda Makhamya.
Pam Zwane eased through in a consistent 1:41, with Beena Maharaj, Shirley Narainsamy and Raksha Maharaj finishing within a few minutes of each other.
Velvan Nair led the 15km run in 1:34 while Benny Malgas, Sphamandla Mklongo, Jean Claude, Krish Naidoo, Samson Mtwarira, Sipho Silangwe participated in long runs in preparation for the Comrades Marathon. Ronnie Rangasamy and Smiley Naidoo completed the 15km walk in 2:08.
