The ABSA Cape Epic is one of the most prestigious mountain bike races in the world. The race has a reputation of being brilliantly organised and clinically efficient when it comes to logistics. The route changes every year and has visited more than 40 towns since the Epic started in 2004 bringing in economic opportunities and revenue. All in all 624 kilometers over eight days including 16 650 meters of climbing. The riders are currently at Oak Valley in Elgin and move to Stellenbosch for two days before the Grand Finale finish at Val de Vie Estate in Paarl on Sunday. “We set up two thousand tents for the people who stay at the venue. We are fully self sufficient from a power point of view. We bring over 20 generators and we power up the whole venue.” Two thousand breakfasts and dinners are served each day.
Media come from all over the world with a crew of 200 media people and the Epic is the most televised mountain bike race in the world and is live streamed to 188 countries. R17,2 million has been raised for charity since 2011.
