The Airports Company of South Africa, ACSA, has launched a national partnership with the Cancer Association of South Africa which is set to benefit millions of cancer patients countrywide. The launch took place at the George airport in the Southern Cape. All airports will host CANSA events to educate people about the disease. ACSA staff will also take part in a volunteer programme at CANSA facilities. George Airport Manager, Brenda Vorster, says ACSA has already handed over 800-thousand rand to kick start the partnership.”The money is aimed at cancer education, care and support and training and development of caregivers. It’s also for research and development and infrastructure development, specifically for people from rural areas that are coming from far that need the support and infrastructure as well whilst they are going through cancer.” CANSA’s head of sustainability, Maria Scholtz, says the partnership will go a long way in furthering the fight against the disease. “A small donation has now gone over a 800-thousand rand donation across SA that’s going to benefit nine different cancer care centres. Our education and care support programmes are the most important in the regions, but also funds assist us to further enhance our advocacy as well as our research efforts.”
