The art world is mourning the death of renowned South African artist, designer and businesswoman, Carrol Boyes, who passed away in Cape Town after a short illness. Boyes was best known for her decor business that offered deftly crafted high end upmarket home and lifestyle items. Boyes has been described as an iconic South African designer and her products are associated with style and finesse. Her distinctive homeware and table top accessories, often described as unique and quirky, includes crockery and cutlery that is sold in over 30 other countries. Boyes graduated with a degree in fine arts, majoring in sculpture, at the University of Pretoria. Initially, Boyes was an English teacher, but at the age of 35 she decided to follow her passion of becoming an artist. She began making crafts from her home in Cape Town in 1989. Boyes was 63 year old at the time of her passing.
