The authorities in Zimbabwe have again cut-off internet service just four days after the start of anti-government protests that have seen at least three people killed and dozens more seriously injured. The country’s largest mobile operator ‘ EcoNet’ says it has been ordered to shut services until further notice. Critics say a similar blackout earlier in the week was aimed at blocking images of the Zimbabwean security forces’ heavy-handed actions during demonstrations against a spike in the price of fuel. The move to shutdown the internet has been criticised by human rights groups, accusing President Emmerson Mnagagwa’s government of censorship and trying to keep the world in the dark about ongoing abuses there. Zimbabweans took to the streets across the country earlier this week and have promised to rally again in the next few days. Mr Mnangagwa has criticised the violence saying it will not solve Zimbabwe’s problems.
