The average water levels of dams in the Western Cape currently stand at 60 percent. The Local Government Department says dams supplying Cape Town have decreased to just over 70 percent compared to 17 percent last year. Local Government Minister, Anton Bredell, says major dams in the province are declining by about one percent weekly. The Theewaterskloof dam near Villiersdorp is currently 55 percent full while Voëlvlei stands at 91 percent and the Berg River Dam at 96 percent. Bredell has appealed to consumers to continue to use water sparingly.
