The Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry has welcomed the significant drop in the price of both diesel and petrol as a “Christmas bonus for the hard pressed people of South Africa”. The Energy department has announced that from Wednesday a litre of petrol will cost R1.84 less and diesel will go down by R1.45. President of the Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Janine Myburgh says the drop will make a big difference to the holiday season and could boost internal tourism. Myburgh says there’s a need to find ways of stabilising the prices. She says priority should be to get the country’s economy performing again to remove most of the exchange control variations.
