The City of Cape Town has started to deliver building materials for residents affected by yesterday’s fire at the SST informal settlement in Town Two, Khayelitsha. One person died and at least 800 displaced after the fire destroyed an estimated 200 dwellings. The debris has been cleared from the site. Residents who spent last night at the community and church halls, are standing in line to get their building material. Ward councillor Thando Pimpi is in the area to monitor the delivery of the building material.
Meanwhile teams of the humanitarian aid organisation, Gift of the Givers Gift of the Givers are in the area to assist the fire victims. Spokesperson, Ali Sablay, says aid of R2 million is being distributed. “Gift of the Givers has provided ingredient for cook meals. We providing blankets, stationary packs, cause as we know the matriculants are busy writing exams. So lots of their school books and stationary has burned out. Their clothing has burned out. So well be giving them new clothes and shoes as well as basic utensils like your cup and sources for the residents just to get back on their feet. “

  1. Friday there were a fire in Hout Bay also ,where an adult and a young child died. But no material being dropped there.

  2. I give South Africa 100% on everything but when it comes to urban dwellings/residential for its people it’s 20 years behind Zimbabwe…….. South Africa needs to take notes from Zimbabwe when it comes to urban settlement.
