The City of Cape Town has taken NGO, Reclaim the City, to court to secure an urgent interdict to prevent them from hosting an open house campaign at the Cissie Gool House in Woodstock. Reclaim the City has been illegally occupying the building with more than 160 homeless families since last March. The Cissie Gool House formally known as the Woodstock Hospital has been sheltering evicted and homeless residents for the past 18 months. Activist, Deena Bosch says they’ve been campaigning for affordable housing near Cape Town’s city centre for families and evictees who have nowhere to go. She says the open house initiative will help the public to understand how the residents live and hear their stories and struggles to find homes.
