The fifth annual Cape Town Colour Run kicked off on the Sea Point Promenade…

The fifth annual Cape Town Colour Run kicked off on the Sea Point Promenade today. Dubbed the happiest 5K (or five kilometres) on the planet, the annual event which is held in various cities across the world, sees participants splashing coloured powder on each other as they walk and run to the finish. This year’s route starts at the Nelson Mandela Spectacles on the Promenade, with the finish line located just opposite Sea Point High School. The Colour Run’s event co-ordinator, Leon Swanepoel, says more than 8000 people are participating in today’s event…

“90 percent of the participants today will be walking, pushing prams, carrying babies and just enjoying themselves on the five kilometre route. On kilometre one you will have a colour blast, kilometre two you’ll have another colour. Kilometre three and four different colours. Ending in a rainbow throw which will consist of between seven and nine different colours.”
