The first of a number of remakes of classic and popular films of the 70s and 80s has just been released on the South African cinema circuit. A new version of the 1976 musical romantic drama, “A Star Is Born”, with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, has hit cinemas in the country at the weekend. It features Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. This will be followed this weekend with an updated edition of the 1973 historical period- drama prison film, “Papillon”, with Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman. The 2018 remake boasts Charlie Hunnam and Rami Malek. Horror fans will be glad to know that the 1989 flick, “Pet Sematary”, has also been dusted off for younger generations with its new take being released early next year. Filming is, meanwhile, set to begin abroad this month on a new version of the 1983 cult film, “Scarface”, with Al Pacino. Movie buffs are eagerly awaiting news on who will be the new Scarface.
