The Franshhoek Pass has been closed due a veld fire that is burning on both sides of the road. The Cape Winelands District Municipality’s Fire Services says the fire broke out in the Overberg near the Theewaterkloof dam. It is being fanned by strong winds that has caused it to spread rapidly in the direction of the Cape Winelands District. The municipality says the veld fire is burning on both sides of the road. Due to this the fire is inaccessible and poses a serious risk. Farmers in the area have been informed of the potential danger by the Fire Protection Association. Meanwhile, the fire at bottom of Shaws Pass near Caledon is burning out of control in alien vegetation and agricultural land.
