The FW De Klerk Foundation has confirmed that the country’s former President has been hospitalised. The 82 year old was was admitted to hospital yesterday. In a brief statement on the foundation’s website it confirms that De Klerk had been hospitilsed. The Foundation says he was admitted yesterday due an abnormal collection of air in the pleural space between his lung and chest wall. The statesman has since been treated and is expected to be discharged next week. He underwent a succesful procedure this morning. Last night, De Klerk was expected to attend the book launch of retired US Assistant Secretary of State for Africa, Amabassador Herman J. Cohen. Cohen worked with him and former President, Nelson Mandela during the time when South Africa was transitioning into a non-racial democracy. He however cancelled with the Chairperson of his Foundation Dave Steward standing in for him.
