The IEC in the Western Cape says farmers who prevent political parties from campaigning on their farms, commit a criminal offence. This follows a complaint by the EFF that a farmer in the Witzenberg municipality of the Western Cape earlier this week prevented them from campaigning on his farm ahead of a by-election next week. IEC Provincial Electoral Officer, Courtney Sampson, says it’s unconstitutional to prevent political parties from gaining access to farm workers. “if the farmer is member of Agri Wes-Kaap we’ll speak to them and usually they help to resolve the issues. So I think in terms of this particular situation if this farmer is just simply for whatever reason saying you may not come to our farm that’s against the law. As far as we are concerned because the people who live on the farms has the right to political participation.”

  1. Bullshit
Private property should not be used as political battle grounds.
Why not go and campaign on Zuma’s property.

  2. Why can’t they campaign infront if the farmers property but they have no right to demand being on the premises at all. Seems as thou the IEC is just as corrupt as said political party.
