The Independent Electoral Commission in the Western Cape says five political parties will contest the three municipal ward by-elections that will take place in the province on Wednesday. Ward 31 in the City of Cape Town was previously held by the DA and became vacant after the resignation of the councillor. This ward will be contested by candidates from the ACDP, ANC, DA, the Democratic Independent Party and the EFF. Ward 101 in Kraaifontein was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s death. It will be contested by the ANC, DA and EFF. Ward Five in Bergriver municipality on the West Coast became vacant due to the expulsion of the ANC councillor. The parties contesting this ward, are the ANC, DA, ACDP, the EFF and an independent candidate.
