The Independent Electoral Commission in the Western Cape says it is ready to host…

The Independent Electoral Commission in the Western Cape says it is ready to host the final voter registration weekend next week. The provincial election launch took place in Cape Town today. The IEC in the Western Cape says more than three million people are registered to vote in the province. Currently more than 100 political parties are registered, making it the province with the highest numbers of registered parties, but Provincial Electoral Officer Courtney Sampson says this doesn’t mean that all parties will contest the upcoming national and provincial elections. He says parties wishing to contest on a national level require a deposit of two hundred thousand rand and 45 thousand rand to contest on a provincial level. Nationally there are 600 registered political parties.
