The organisation, Gun Free SA, says arming paramedics is not a solution to keep them safe, but would rather put them in more danger. This follows a reiterated call by the South African Emergency Personnel Union for paramedics to arm themselves, after an incident of paramedics being robbed at gunpoint in Mitchell’s Plain on Friday. Gun Free SA spokesperson, Adele Kirsten, says arming people increases the potential for violence: “Having a gun on you the evidence shows across the world that it increases your risk for being targeted by attackers, but it also increases your risk for other kinds of injury and death, such as self-harm. One of the solutions might be to increase penalties for attacks on emergency workers, to see it as similar to an attack on a police officer.”

  1. If that is the case, then why not ban guns in South Africa altogether if it’s going to increase the behavior of gun owners and attackers ?? This is definitely not going to solve the situation.Being more harsh on the sentence is like what,an extra 3 or 4 years depending on the severity of what happened ?? Bull story.I don’t see it happening.Homeless people been arrested for crap happening on Clifton’s 4th beach. Why not solve our gun situation in South Africa, for pete’s sake !! 🙁

  2. Great solution. Just dont respond to those areas. If they cannot respect a life saver why the trouble. Let the government ministers respond. They are after all always protected
