The Western Cape Blood Transfusion Service has called on people, particularly those with the ‘O’ blood type, to urgently donate blood. The service says it currently has about three days of supply left. This is a slight improvement from last week, when there was only enough supply for one day. Spokesperson for the service, Michelle Vermeulen, says last week Capetonians stepped up when blood was urgently needed, but they are again running short. “We’ve got a lot more holidays happening now and we need people to come and donate. Find a donation clinic closest to you and donate urgently. We always need all blood types but particularly we are finding that the O’s are currently low stocked. So we are appealing to O-positive and O-negative to come forward and donate blood.”
