The world could have a new source of fuel, off the Southern Cape coast of South Africa. The Minister of Mineral Resources, Gwede Mantashe, visited the Total Oil Exploration Drill, about 180km offshore from Mossel Bay. The Deepsea Stavanger has been drilling the ocean floor for the past two months. Located in the Southern Outeniqua deep water basin, the Brulpadda field could deliver billions of barrels of oil. Mantashe says the prospects of oil could change our economy. “Oil will be a game changer, gas will add a lot of value and we are hoping that we discover oil and a lot of it so that we can reduce our dependency on imported crude oil for our survival. This is one of the most important projects underway now. We will give total all the support we can.” Mantashe was also questioned about the alleged improvements to his properties as claimed by former Bosasa employee, Richard Le Roux. Le Roux told the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture, that Mantashe as well as ANC MP Vincent Smith and former SAA Chair, Dudu Myeni, benefitted from the so-called ‘Special Projects’ box. Mantashe has denied benefiting from any security upgrades and says he will be taking journalists to his properties this week so that they can judge for themselves.”I want them to see this security upgrades that is much talked about. I’ve already written a letter to the commission that i want to give my evidence to the commission. That is where i will give details. But I want journalists to go there before i give evidence, so that when i give that evidence, they can put it in context. “

  1. Wat eintlik gesê word, tussen lyne: ons het olie, ons hoef nie in te voer nie, so ons kan meer vra vir diesel, want dit is duur, maar onderlangs kan ons meer steel, VIVA COMRADES! Sleg Etter!
