There’s renewed hope by South African fans of the American pop act, Backstreet Boys, that the five- some harmony group will soon perform on local shores for the first time, now that the lads’ latest album has shot to the top of the Billboard 200 Chart. Sony Music Entertainment Africa says the group’s latest achievement with the album titled, “DNA”, means that Backstreet’s back with a first number one album in almost 20 years! Their latest offering debuted at number one in Canada this week, and is fast climbing the charts in over ten territories world wide. In May this year the boys embark on a massive international tour, but without dates for South Africa at this stage. Over the past 26 years the boys have never played on home soil. They only visited South Africa for two publicity stunts, while scheduled performances at Sun City in June 2008 were eventually called off. They were to appear at the Posi+ive Festival at the Superbowl.
