The communications officer at the Eldorado Park Police Station, constable Fezeka Khobo, said that the detective department at the police station in Ext 6 has been hard at work to ensure that 2018 investigations were completed before the new year.
“Three ongoing investigations were completed, two of them were murders and one was a case of robbery,” said Khobo.
According to Khobo, the first investigation was a murder case. “Valenco Nazeer, a 20-year-old man was arrested for murder and found guilty and was sentenced to 13 years imprisonment,” she said.
The murder was committed in neighbouring Freedom Park in September last year.
“The accused stabbed his victim in the chest with a sharp object. The Eldorado Park detectives worked tirelessly to trace him and he was arrested,” said Khobo.

Another murder case was put to bed before the new year. According to Khobo, Fezile Mthongana, a 28-year-old man was arrested for murder and was subsequently sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment.

“The murder took place along the Golden Highway in Bushkoppies in November last year. The accused grabbed his ex-girlfriend, an argument ensued and one of his ex-girlfriend’s friends, Siphamandla Mjoli intervened and was killed in the scuffle,” said Khobo.
The third investigation was a robbery. According to Khobo, Lanique Swarts, a 21-year-old man was arrested for robbery and was found guilty after the case went to trial. Khobo said, “He was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment.”
“The crime was committed in Diamant Street, Eldorado Park Proper, in July last year,” she said.
“I want to repeat the fact that crime does not pay. Even though it takes times, the police work tirelessly to solve cases,” said Khobo.
The communications officer urged residents to report crimes immediately and to seek help from the services made available to them. Khobo said that in 2019, the police will continue to put the community first.
