Three-times Formula One motor racing world champion Niki Lauda has died at the age of 70. The Austrian won the title for Ferrari in 1975 and 1977 and for McClaren in 1984. Lauda is considered one of the greatest Formula One drivers. Not because of the number of his world titles but for his sheer drive and determination. In 1976 he was seriously injured in a crash at the German Grand Prix . He came close to death and his face was badly burned, but six weeks later he was racing again with his head still bandaged. He later became a successful airline entrepreneur running Lauda Air and fulfilled many executive roles in motor racing. But his near fatal crash left him battling with health problems for the rest of his life. Lauda underwent an emergency lung transplant last year.
