Tributes are pouring for the late veteran jazz singer Dorothy Masuku who passed away in her Johannesburg home yesterday. The 83-year-old musician was born in Bulawayo in the then Southern Rhodesia now Zimbabwe but was exiled from her home country after singing at the inauguration of the former DRC leader, Patrce Lumumba who was later assassinated. In a Twitter post, Arts and Culture Minister, Nathi Mthethwa said a Baobab tree has fallen with her passing. Fortune Hute is the family spokesperson and Masuku’s grandson: “She was a loving grandmother she passed on in the comfort of her home. She had her grandkids and the children around her when she passed on in Johannesburg south. She struggled with hypertension for a while now since last year until the time of her death today.”

  1. RIP Mama uqgantso lwakho ulufezile
I think TV shows can have some documentaries for all our heroes before they passed away… Not remembering them when they passed away so the legacy can’t stay alive for our great grandchildren….. Now our children they don’t even know what really music is all they know about SOLALA EKUSENI, NAMHLANJE ANDIBUYI ENDLINI.. etc
    Yhoooo it’s so sad xem..
