Two more firearms were taken off the streets by SAPS in unrelated incidents in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth.
“In the first incident a business robbery took place at a tavern in Nkata Street, New Brighton, on Sunday night,” said police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge.
“At about 20:30, four armed suspects entered the tavern and demanded cash from an employee at the tavern.
“The 77-year-old lady employee was serving patrons through a security gate inside the tavern when she was gun pointed by the suspects.”
He said that they managed to rob the tavern of an undisclosed amount of cash and liquor before they fled the scene.
“Moments later SAPS Flying Squad members responding to the robbery arrested a 27-year-old suspect when they noticed him jumping over a boundary wall behind the tavern.”
Capt Beetge said that the suspect had an unlicensed firearm – 9mm pistol with four rounds of ammunition, in his possession.
“He was charged for armed robbery and illegal possession of an unlicensed fire arm and ammunition.”
Another suspect found with illegal firearm
