Two of the world’s top ballet stars are giving a Cape Town production of “Sleeping Beauty” an international flavour. The principal dancer at the Royal Ballet in London, Vadim Muntagirov and principal dancer at the Hungarian National Ballet in Budapest, Tatiana Melnik respectively dance the roles of Prince Florimund and Princess Aurora. The two high- in- demand and sought after dancers are on a break from the ballet season in the Northern Hemisphere and gracing the stage of the Artscape Opera House at the moment. Muntagirov and Melnik have trained together at Russia’s prestigious ballet school in Perm years ago, but this is the first time that they dance opposite one another in the timeless fairytale, “Sleeping Beauty”. The ballet, danced to Tchaikovsky’s music, follows Princess Aurora’s hundred year sleep and magical awakening.
