Two people have been arrested in Cape Town for the alleged illegal possession of council property such as manhole covers and gully grids. The City of Cape Town says council workers in Pelican Park stopped a truck with drain covers on the back and called Law Enforcement when the driver ran away. Thirteen marked metal gully grids and three manhole covers, as well as unidentified covers were found on the back of the vehicle after inspection. The driver returned to the scene and said he was unaware of the nature of the cargo. The owner of the vehicle and an identified mechanic were then called to the scene where they were arrested and charged at the Grassy Park Police Station under the Criminal Matters Amendement Act.
