Two train carriages have been destroyed by a fire that broke out at Van der Stel Station near Somerset West outside Cape Town. Fire spokesperson Jermaine Carelse says firefighters responded rapidly to douse the flames. He says the cause of the blaze has not been established. More than 40 train carriages have burnt across the Cape Metro in recent months.

  1. How does a country and its poor get any better when assets (trains, libraries, clinics, etc.) are destroyed all the time? The other big question is: is PRASA maintaing its stuff to prevent insulation failures (like cleaning the muck off insulators)? — as I see this involves a motor coach.
