Update on Betty’s Bay fire.
#BettysBayFire #goFPA update 1/1/19 14.00
Status: Not contained
Area affected: Fire in Kogelberg nature reserve. Burning on the lower to top slopes of the Voorberg mountain above Mooiuitsig, Betty’s Bay.
Ignition: The community reported that shortly after midnight a flare (possibly 2) were noted. A reward is being considered to identify the offender.
The IC reports that although good work was done during the early hours of the New year the weather conditions and location of the fire made it difficult to hold the lines. At 10.29 two choppers and a spotter were put to work in an aim to stop the spread of the #wildfire.
It would seems this incident will be an extended attack – multi day – due to inaccessibility and weather conditions.
Overstrand Municipality Fire Services is stationed at the edge of the neighbourhood as a PRE-Cautionary measure. No structures threatened and with current weather conditions the IMT (Incident Management Team) for warning messages from the #Overstrand officials.
The firefighters appreciate the donations received. Should you have any concerns please contact the fire services 24h Control room at 028 312 2400 or us.
