Silvia Tufegdzic, member of the School Governing Body (SGB) at Dowerglen High School confirmed that one pupil was injured “following an incident” at the school earlier today.
She said that as a precautionary measure all learners at the school were taken into the school hall.
All learners have been accounted for.
“The injured learner was transported to a nearby hospital in a stable condition,” she confirmed to the NEWS.
It is believed that the learner was injured by suspects fleeing from the SAPS.
Pupils are receiving trauma counseling at the school.
UPDATE at 12.30pm: Police helicopter has landed near the school.
UPDATE at 12.20pm: Officials from the Gauteng Department of Education are at Dowerglen High School.
Residents are advised to avoid the area surrounding Dowerglen High School this afternoon due to strong police presence.
It is believed that an “incident” occurred at the school earlier.
