The second edition of the Sisonke Challenge brought in a larger field with the category prizes for the participants in the 10km race being welcomed by all.
The 7am start for both the 5km and 10km participants saw a merry field take up the Inanda Dam challenge.
Nestled in the picturesque hills surrounding the dam, runners started with great enthusiasm as they careered downhill before the ascent to the top of the hill- for some, resembling the infamous ‘Struggle Hill’ that they encountered in the Mandela Marathon in Howick.
VAC, similar to last year, posted pleasing runs with Vukani Maphumulo taking his second podium finish in 39 minutes securing first position in the 35 to 39 year category.
Sarah Naidoo took in a fast-paced third position in the ladies 50 category in 1: 10. Velvan Nair converted his form on the training runs into a well deserved 58 minute sub-one hour despite the challenging hill that was the undoing of all runners as they took in the extraordinary view on top of the dam overlooking the Inanda Dam and surrounding areas.
