The Verulam Athletic Club, on behalf of Lower Tugela Lifeskills, will soon host the 1860 Indentured 10km and 5km Challenge at the Amphitheatre, North Beach.
With a 7am start, runners and walkers will be able to take up the fast and flat promenade with the Indian ocean on either side.
Run in the picturesque beachfront, runners and walkers will be able to sample Durban’s best and fastest 10km route, which also allows for personal bests on September 24 (Heritage Day).
This is another community outreach programme assisted by VAC with part of proceeds benefitting Lifeskills OVC projects and SANCA in its fight against substance abuse.
The race commemorates the arrival of the 1860 indentured labourers and as part of social cohesion also aligning with the Nelson Mandela’s centenary.
In a symbolic start at the amphitheatre, the race route takes in a southerly direction towards uShaka, not far away from the first landing of the ships that brought in the first batch of indentured labourers.
The runners and walkers will then turn towards the northerly direction. The 5km participants turn into amphitheatre while the 10km runners and walkers will pass Suncoast and make a u-turn at the Bike and Bean Café.
Online registration is available courtesy of Event Timing, who will also do race day timing for the 10km run and walk.
