The Verulam Athletic Club members made their presence felt despite the heavy downpour experienced over the weekend.
The sub youth and juniors returned to the Team VAC fold as the season for cross country and track and field commences.
In a remarkable quest for early season fitness, VAC junior contingent, primarily from Waterloo, resembled ducks taking to water with the steady rain on Saturday and returned on Sunday for the opposite route taking in 5km, 10km, 12km and 15km.
Ages ranging from seven to 16 proved no barrier as the thirst for sporting excellence and fun on the route took over the R102 towards Tongaat.
Ably managed by veteran, Joyce Ngidi, the troop ensured a collective performance that is already reaping rewards for the season ahead.

The 10km edition saw Velvan Nair lead with Joel Motsoane in 61 minutes, with Cynthia Zondi easing in a distant 31 minutes later.
Joey Chetty improved from the previous week in 1:39, ahead of Zama Ngcobo in 1:44.
Ben Padayachee finished four minutes later with Rajesh Ramdhularie, Anand Naicker, Dominic Govender and Vishnu Moodley making up the 10km finishers.
VAC speedsters showed glimpses of preseason training with a fluent sub-hour 59 minutes in the 12km run.
Pam Zwane finished in 1:39.
The 12km run was headed by Burundian Jean Claude in 1:21. Johnny Karanjoo finished two minutes later, with newcomer, Nasain Mumbo finishing his first 15km in 1:32.
Joyce Ngidi, the junior team manager of VAC Waterloo group, finished in a credible 1:37, five minutes ahead of Anand Naidoo.
Comrades runner, Samson Mtawarira continued his Comrades training run in 1:47 ahead of Sarah Naidoo in 1:49.
Krish Naidoo, Nan Maharaj, Bena Maharaj ,Ronnie Rangasamy and Walter Mthembu completed the team.
Membership are to note that 2019 KZNA licences are now available from the licencing officer.
