Various principal New York ballet stars and South African ballet dancers will be combining their artistic skills for a short season at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town from tonight. The international dancers are members of New York City Ballet and American Ballet Theatre, while the local dancers are from Jo’burg Ballet, who will be performing in the Mother City for the first time. The programme includes pieces from Sleeping Beauty, Nutcracker, Don Quixote and “Flames of Paris”. It also boasts the works, Affection, Joy, Carmen and Transcendence. The shows will further be paying tribute to former Cape Town ballet dancer, the late Mignon Furman, who went to New York and established the American Academy of Ballet years ago. She passed away in December 2012.
