Various role players from the fire safety industry, academia and government today visited the site of the devastating 2017 Knysna fires. They are meeting to discuss ways to prevent a similar incident from occuring around the country. The 12th Fire Management Symposium is taking place in George in the Southern Cape. Concerns have been raised recently by academics about the planting of alien vegetation in some areas. Dirk Smit from the South Cape Fire Protection Association says cooperation among all role players is important when dealing with a fire disaster. Property owners have been urged to get rid of excess and alien vegetation.
