Venterstad police over the weekend successfully arrested four suspects following a crime spree that started when they robbed a security guard.
“The security guard at the Venterstad Magistrate Court was overpowered by four suspects on Saturday, at about 23:00, and his firearm was taken,” described police spokesperson, Captain Ursula Roelofse.
“The suspects then went to a tavern at Nozizwe Lacality where they shot a man in the shoulder. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.
“The SAPS immidiately reacted on the information.”
She said that two of the suspects were then arrested after shots were fired at the SAPS.
“Two of the suspects then fled the scene.”
On Sunday, the SAPS team after working tiressly arrested the outstanding suspects and recovered the fire-arm a 9 mm Smith Wesson and a magazine with rounds.
“Three of the suspects are aged 26 and the fourth one, 24-years-old. They will appear in court on Monday for charges of robbery and attempted murder,” said Captain Roelofse.
SAPS Cluster Commander, Brig Trevor Mey, commended Capt Thomas and her team on the quick response and the successfull arrests and recovery of the fire-arm.
“Our community must know that the SAPS will not tolerate these serious and violent crimes that threaten the safety and security of our community.”
