Verulam SAPS has received numerous complaints from various homeowners in the Verulam area, stating that houses are being illegally built on their respective properties.

Upon confronting the builders, homeowners found them to be in possession of receipts alleging that they paid an individual for the land.
Communications officer of Verulam SAPS, Cpt H Kisten said, “When the owners of the property question the buyer, they state that they have purchased the property from an individual and produce receipts but are not in possession of a title deed.”
Police are therefore urging communities not to purchase property if no title deeds are given to them by the seller.

“They must ensure that such purchases of property are done legally and all legal documents are on hand. The buyers in such cases can also be charged for illegally purchasing or building on property,” he added.
