The Verulam Crime Watch Sector One (VCWSO) held its first public fundraising event at La Mercy beach, recently.
VCWSO, SAPS sector commander, Cpt Mark Prakasim, and other stakeholders, organised the event, which featured a fishing competition.
Close to 90 anglers registered and many families came out to show their support.
VCWSO is a pro-active crime prevention organisation and is a project of Verulam SAPS.

The initiative also focuses on aiding the community and other organisations with welfare-driven projects.
Members of the patrol team sacrifice their time in order to create a safer environment for all.
Cpt Henry Kisten, communications officer at Verulam SAPS, said, “Their effectiveness is evident in the arrests being made and the decrease of crime in the sector. We urge residents to be vigilant, become pro-active and form partnerships with security companies and the police to remove criminal elements from our society. Act against crime.”
