Some of the Okapi knives recovered on a number of suspects.
Twenty arrests were made following recent stop and search operations by members of the Verulam Crime Prevention Unit, targeting drugs and dangerous weapons.
A total of 17 heroin capsules and three pieces of rock cocaine were recovered.
Nine people were searched and found to be in possession of Okapi knives and were charged for the possession of dangerous weapons.

Two people were charged in terms of the Prostitution Act and one person for driving while under the influence of alcohol.
All those arrested will soon appear before the Verulam Magistrate’s Court.
Cpt Henry Kisten, communications officer of Verulam SAPS, said, “Due to these stop and search operations, there was a reduction in serious crime such as house and business robberies.”

The visible policing commander, Col Rendege Dhlamuka, applauded her members and said, “These operations will be ongoing, especially with drug related offenses contributing to our socio-economic crimes and dangerous weapons that contributes to our robberies whereby knives are being used to commit robberies.”
