Verulam police arrest man for possession of unlicensed shotgun | Phoenix Sun

Crime prevention duties conducted by Verulam SAPS yielded positive results after a man was arrested for possession of an unlicensed shotgun and ammunition, over the weekend.

At about 3am, W/O Dean Heeralall, Sgt Ishan Sewraj and Cnst Lucky Sibiya were conducting stop and search operations on Ireland Street when they noticed a silver/ grey Peugeot going onto the oncoming lane of travel.
Police gave chase and managed to stop the vehicle.
A search of the occupants followed and the driver was arrested for being in possession of the shotgun and five live rounds of ammunition.
When the man was questioned as to whether he owns a license for the firearm, he stated that he did not.
The firearm was inspected. The serial numbers were filed off.

Communications officer at Verulam SAPS, Cpt Henry Kisten said, “The suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. He is yet to appear in court. The police were complemented by station commander, Brig Dludla, on their good work in making the arrest and recovery.”
