Verulam SAPS is urging the public to refrain from parking in isolated areas following an increase in carjackings in the area.
Communications officer of Verulam SAPS, Cpt H Kisten, said, “There were two vehicles stolen in a matter of a week within the Canelands area which is a matter of concern.”
They are therefore are urging communities to adhere to safety hints and to assist in the prevention of crime.

“Make sure your vehicle is parked in a secure place. Install a gear lock, steering lock, immobilizer and a tracker. Ensure the vehicle securely locked at all times. Also ensure your vehicle is not parked on verges or vacant lots,” he said.
The Canelands area falls within the sector 4 of police sub forum which includes Mhlasini, Cottonlands and Hazelmere.
Police are urging communities within the sector to get involved with their local sector forum in the fight against crime.
