A Johannesburg mother of two is traumatised after her family was hijacked outside their home on Tuesday. Eileen Smith, who routinely waits outside for her six-year-old son and four-year-old daughter to be dropped off by her ex-husband, was approached by four men outside her complex.Smith, who lives with her children in Broadacres, said she walked to the entrance of the complex to pick up her children.”Their father messaged me at around 19:32 to fetch them. He would usually just drop them off outside.”Their routine was quickly interrupted by three armed men who jumped out of a white BMW and hijacked the family.”Three men jumped out while the other remained in the car. All I heard was the gun being cocked and a man screaming ‘Voetsek!’ as he ran towards me. The security standing outside all of a sudden disappeared when the guys got out,” she said.”The other guy ran towards their father and grabbed his watch and pulled his bracelet off him. They also managed to get his car keys.”Smith said that her children were still in the backseat of the car, but were so shocked by the incident that they jumped to the back of the vehicle to hide in the boot.”In the video you see me running to the back of the car because I just needed to get my children. One of the guys had a gun to my face. My son saw this man holding a gun to my face as I was trying to get him out,” she said.Smith managed to get both her children out of the vehicle unharmed.”The one guy pulled my son out with a gun in his hand. That is what my kids had to go through. It is traumatic for them.”Smith told News24 that her children are receiving counselling.”The other night my son said to me, ‘Mommy, you almost died’, that is what they must live with.”Police have confirmed that a case of hijacking has been opened at the Douglasdale police station.”One of the victims’ white Lexus SUV was taken. The investigation is still ongoing, but no arrests have been made so far,” said police spokesperson Captain Mpho Tshetlhane.SOURCE: NEWS24
