Watch: Residents of the Karoo can breathe a sigh of relief this morning. The escaped lion has been caught. SANparks says it was darted around 6pm yesterday on a farm about 20 kilometres from Sutherland. The lion was transported by helicopter to the local police station and put in a holding cell. The search team was awaiting a crate from Addo in the Eastern Cape to transport it back to the Karoo National Park. The lion escaped escaped by digging a hole underneath a fence at the park near Beaufort West after heavy rains three weeks ago. Several trackers on foot, as well as aerial support, were called in to help track the animal. It has killed a number of animals since escaping. This is the second lion to have escaped from the park in recent years. In 2016, Sylvester made headlines when he got out twice.
