Watch: The SARS office in the Cape Town CBD has closed for the day after opening for only a few hours this morning. This is due to a nationwide strike by employees affiliated to union NEHAWU. There was glimmer of hope for tax payers who arrived to get help today. However, just after 11am, an official came out and informed people standing in the queue that the office would close for the day because of the strike. Workers are demanding an 11-point four percent wage increase. SARS are offering between a seven and eight percent. Frustrated members of the public say the strike is a great inconvenience as they had put in a day’s leave to attend to their tax matters.
