Water woes for Greenbury residents

Update
Phoenix Durban

Speaking about the issue, Minority Front councillor, Jonathan Annipen, who resides in the area, said that he was alerted about the problem and had been working with officials to resolve the case immediately.

Greenbury residents were left without water for the weekend after the municipality failed to fix a burst pipe which occurred during the early hours of Saturday morning.
Ratepayers in Yard Green and surrounding roads were left without water supply for the entire weekend.
What exacerbated the crisis was that no tankers came out to assist the public and no information was given to the residents about the challenge.

“I was informed by residents early on Saturday morning and had been liaising with officials since. The water cut was a result of a major burst pipe in the area. Unfortunately, the processes the municipality uses to employ plumbers is very dysfunctional and compromises response times,” he said.
It was his last resort to speak with the offices of the head of water and sanitation to get officials to dispatch tankers to the area.
This finally happened on Monday morning.
He added, “It is sad that former Indian areas are treated so indiscriminately and are prejudiced because of their voting patterns. This community contributes to the economic strength of the municipality by paying their rates and taxes scrupulously and yet they are meted with absolute disdain and disregard. As the MF, we reject this type of injustice and will continue to hold the municipality accountable for their actions.”
