WELL DONE TO ALL INVOLVED:.
This morning, members attached to Cape Town K9 Unit received information about a vehicle allegedly transporting crayfish from Hawston to Cape Town. At 06:15 they stopped the vehicle on the N2, coming down Sir Lowry’s Pass. Upon searching the white Mercedes Benz C220, they recovered numerous bags containing whole West Coast Lobsters and also lobster tails.
The driver of the vehicle, a 32-year-old man from Belhar was arrested. A total of 249 whole West Coast lobsters and 2902 lobster tails worth an estimated street value of R50 000 was seized.
The suspect will appear in the Strand Magistrates’ court tomorrow, 10 February 2017, on charges related to the illegal possession and transportation of West Coast Lobster under the Living Marine Resources Act.
