Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, Alan Winde, says he wants to roll out the commissioner of oaths project that has been running at the Cape Town central police station to police stations in crime ridden areas as well. He says for the past nine days, government volunteers have been doing duty as Commissioners of Oaths at the Cape Town central police station, and have helped relieve the pressure on officers. He says his volunteers certified the documents of more than one thousand 600 people. Winde says this allows police to focus on fighting crime. “Specifically in a place like Bonteheuwel who this year already has had 17 murders or Mitchells Plain with 25 murders, people shot through gang violence. We can start to relieve some pressure on the police officers and they can spend more time out fighting crime.”
