Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, Dan Plato, claims the rail system in Cape Town has collapsed. Plato this morning abandoned his plans to take a train from Mitchells Plain to the city after the train failed to arrive in nearly three hours. The purpose of the trip was to experience at first hand the conditions under which commuters travel on a daily basis. Plato says he is utterly disappointed about the conditions people are subjected to: “At the end of the day, you can say that the train system has collapsed. You can say it is completely unreliable. What we see when people pass by, they prefer to buy a bus ticket or take a taxi. Looking at the taxi and bus rank, it is hundreds of people standing there. So, it’s more reliable, the road transport. But, rail transport as far as I’m concerned is non-existent.”

  1. Last year, Brett Herron pulled the same stunt and nothing happened. In fact the rail system is no more. Last year he promised that City is considering taking over the rail system with assistance from Golden Arrow. One year later and again the same stunt. Haibo, we got long memories and will pour it out at the polling booths.

  2. Don’t forget rail belongs to National which is ANC. So it’s up to them to fix and we all know they fix nothing.
