Western Cape Minister of Economic Opportunities, Beverley Schäfer says the handover of title deeds…

Western Cape Minister of Economic Opportunities, Beverley Schäfer says the handover of title deeds to the people of Ebenhaeser, is the largest agricultural restitution claim in the province. President Cyril Ramaphosa handed over title deeds yesterday to direct descendants of the Griqua community who established themselves on the land back in 1926. The claim for nearly four thousand hectares of commercial land was originally submitted in 1996. Schäfer says this makes it the longest outstanding land claim in the province. “This Land claim has taken more than 22-years to resolve. Land reform must be fast tracked to give dignity to may of the people displaced from their homes. We hope that the people of Ebenhaeser, Vaalplaas and Beeswater will go on to become successful commercial agricultural producers in the Western Cape.” Schäfer says the Western Cape Department of Agriculture will provide advice and extension services to the farmers to ensure that this land claim is a success for everyone involved.
