Netcare 911 paramedics responded to reports of a drowning at an Umhlanga beach, yesterday morning.
Reports from the scene indicated that a female in her twenties was found floating in the surf.
Lifeguards were alerted and pulled the woman from the water. They started CPR when they found she was not breathing and unresponsive.

Once paramedics arrived at the scene, a full advanced life support resuscitation was initiated by an emergency care practitioner.
A pulse was regained and the patient was rapidly transported to hospital for further treatment.
Circumstances leading to the woman being found unresponsive in the water will be investigated by authorities who were at the scene.
