XIGUBU DANCER LAID TO REST!

HUNDREDS of people paid their last respects to renowned
international traditional dancer, Amoce Famanda Makhubele in
Malamulele over the weekend.  Makhubele died at the age of 89 after a long illness. Speaker after speaker described Makhubele as a world class entertainer,
who resigned from South African railway in the 70s and also as a chief, to travel
the world as a dancer. One of the speakers, Billy Shivambu said he was shocked to learn that Makhubele
declined to be installed as a chief of Makhubele clan in Shihambanyisi in
Hlanganani, but he decided to make people happy with his Xigubu dance. Shivambu went to say Makhubele was not selfish because he other people in his
position of chief even though he was back here in South Africa. His grandson Kulani Makhubele described his grandfather as a loving person who
wanted to see everybody happy.Abel Makhubele said his brother has rose the South African flag abroad, and
appealed to the Department of Art and Culture to honour his brother, for his
contribution to the Xigubu dance.
